The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has confirmed that the scheduled white-ball series with India, expected to take place in August 2025, is currently in limbo. BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul stated that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to receive formal clearance from the Indian government, putting the series in doubt.

Scheduled Fixtures at Risk

The series, originally announced in April 2025, was set to include three One Day Internationals and three T20 Internationals, to be played in Dhaka and Chattogram from August 17. If finalized, this would mark Bangladesh’s first-ever home T20I series against India.

Awaiting the Green Light

Speaking after a BCB board meeting, Aminul Islam confirmed that discussions with the BCCI have been positive so far. However, he made it clear that India’s participation hinges on receiving final approval from its central government. Both boards are also exploring alternate windows in case the August schedule cannot be honored. As the tour is part of the ICC Future Tours Programme, complete cancellation appears unlikely.

Political and Diplomatic Hurdles

The uncertainty comes amid wider political instability in Bangladesh, which has seen protests and legal controversies dominate the national agenda. Additionally, the current diplomatic tension between India and Bangladesh, fueled by internal unrest in 2024, is believed to be a contributing factor behind the delay in confirmation.

Regional Cricketing Stakes

India and Bangladesh share a fierce cricketing rivalry, often referred to as the Padma-Ganga Derby. Historically, India has dominated across all formats, but Bangladesh views the upcoming series as an opportunity to challenge their neighbors and gain valuable international exposure at home. For the Bangladesh Cricket Board, hosting India brings not just competitive significance but also substantial commercial and fan engagement potential.

What Happens Next?

The Bangladesh Cricket Board and BCCI remain in close communication. A final decision is expected soon, once India secures the necessary government clearance. Meanwhile, cricket fans across both nations are keeping a close watch, hoping for a resolution that keeps the much-anticipated series alive.
