Wiaan Mulder celebrating his century against Zim at Bulawayo

Bulawayo – South Africa have taken full control of the first Test against Zimbabwe after three days of action at the Queens Sports Club, thanks to a brilliant century from Wiaan Mulder and strong all-round performances across the board. With a lead of over 500 runs, the visitors are now firmly on track for victory.

After putting up a strong 418 in the first innings, South Africa followed it up with another impressive effort, scoring 369 in their second outing. The star of the day was Wiaan Mulder, who played a fluent and classy knock of 147 – the highest score of his Test career so far. He looked in complete control throughout his innings, hitting 17 boundaries and a couple of sixes.

Mulder got solid support from Kyle Verreynne and later from captain Keshav Maharaj, who chipped in with a handy 51. Together, they helped stretch the lead well beyond Zimbabwe’s reach.

Corbin Bosch also chipped in with a smart 36 with the bat and made an impact with the ball, picking up the only wicket to fall in Zimbabwe’s second innings.

Zimbabwe, who were earlier bowled out for 251 in their first innings (despite a fighting century from Sean Williams), were sent back in to bat late on Day 3. They ended the day on 32 for 1, still trailing by a huge 505 runs.

With two full days left in the match, Zimbabwe will need to dig deep and bat out of their skins to avoid defeat. For South Africa, it’s now just a matter of time and patience.

Key Highlights from Day 3:

  • Wiaan Mulder scored a career-best 147
  • Keshav Maharaj added a quick 51
  • Corbin Bosch impressed with bat and ball
  • Zimbabwe ended the day at 32/1, still trailing by 505 runs

South Africa are clearly on top heading into Day 4. Unless Zimbabwe can pull off something extraordinary, it looks like the Proteas will walk away with a convincing win in Bulawayo.
